Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) has organised a fundraising webinar to be held on Friday to mobilise resources to be channelled towards Covid fight.
Basmal’s Director of Marketing and Resource mobilisation Blena Chisenga said they plan to raise over K3 million through the initiative.
“The webinar will be streamed live on Basketball Association of Malawi’s Facebook page. We will raise funds through donations from well-wishers who will be watching the webinar. The donations will be made through Airtel Money, Mpamba or through bank accounts.
“People will be updated on the collections live through the webinar. We plan to raise at least K3 million,” he said.
Chisenga said Basmal had to join the fight against Covid to help the government.
“We understand the challenges the government is facing due to lack of resources to cater for the growing demand of healthcare services due to the rapid growth of the number of people testing positive every day. We would like to mobilise funds which will be channelled to this fight [against Covid].
“We have noted and applauded several initiatives that individuals and organisations are currently doing to support the fight against Covid. One special recognition goes to Onjezani Kenani and his colleagues for taking one bold step in mobilising resources to fight the pandemic,” he said.
Chisenga said Basmal had been active in the fight against the pandemic.
“This will not be our first initiative in the fight against Covid. During the first wave of Covid, we conducted an awareness campaign which was dubbed ‘Trivia Challenge’. The campaign aimed at civic educating Malawians on Covid by asking them questions on the subject matter.
