BAT ground to host ‘Best of Paul Banda’ DVD launch
BAT ground in Blantyre will play host to the launch of the Best of Sir Paul Banda’s DVD on June 5, 2016.
Anthu Ambiri Band and Records Director Zachariah Jazzmen confirmed Wednesday that they have settled for BAT ground in Blantyre.
“You may recall that we announced that the launch will take place at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on May 6. But now we have added BAT in Blantyre and Balaka Stadium,” said Jazzmen.
He said they want to take the launch to as many places in the country for people to sample Paul Banda’s live act.
“We are working very hard and all we want is for more people to sample Paul Banda’s performance live. Again this is Paul Banda’s first ever DVD so is something special,” said Jazzmen.
He said the veteran musician has done a lot for the country including training several artists through the once popular Imbirani Yahwe Studios.
The old-timer, who has promised to drop a fresh album, has been avoiding working on a DVD until when he was convinced by Jezzman.
It took him time for Jezzman to convince Paul to work on a DVD which he found it challenging and deemed it something which was only for the musicians of this generation.
But in an effort aimed at reaching out to many people but also preserve his works, Paul decided to take the challenge and work on The Best of Sir Paul Banda.
“I really didn’t want to do this but I was convinced. We have worked hard with the little resources we had,” said Paul.
He added:
“I did say that I used to admire artists like Moses Makawa, he was a very good guitarist but I never saw him so I thought I should work on a DVD so that the younger generation can appreciate my music.”
Recorded by Anthu Ambiri, which is also set to produce phungu Joseph Nkasa’s DVD, the DVD has 10 tracks.
He said they have also compiled a one hour documentary for the musician.
“We have also compiled a one hour documentary in which Sir Paul Banda has given exclusive details on his music journey. And a booklet has been prepared that contains some summaries of Paul’s journey in music, his pictures from a tender age to now,” said Jazzmen.
He said the pack will have all the package of Paul’s life and that this is why it will be sold at a high price.
At the moment two music videos ‘Malilime,’ and ‘Achimwemwe Muzigona Kunyumba,’ have been released.
Some of the artists expected to spice up the DVD launch are in the three venues are Lucius Banda, San B, Symon and Kendall and Great Angels Choir.
