TNM Super League second-round action enters week two this afternoon as newly crowned Carlsberg Cup champions, Nyasa Big Bullets, face wounded Chitipa United at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre.

Fresh from beating their arch rivals, Be Forward Wanderers, 5-3 on post-match penalties at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe last Saturday to win the cup, the People’s Team go into today’s match as favourites.

Bullets are on third position with 28 points from 15 games whereas Chitipa are bottom with 11 points from 16 games.

In the first-round, Chitipa frustrated Bullets to a goal-less draw at Mzuzu Stadium.

Bullets interim Coach, Elia Kananji, said despite being seen as favourites, he has advised his charges to tread cautiously against Chitipa.

Kananji, after lifting the Charity Shield and the Carlsberg Cup, said he was focusing on winning the league championship.

He said he will throw into action fringe players in the game against Chitipa.

The coach is likely to feature the likes of strikers Dave Banda, Collen Nkhulambe, Maneno Nyoni and Bashir Maunde, who rarely feature in the starting XI.

“Chitipa are the reason we finished the first-round on position three. They denied us three points and we know that they are capable of causing us problems.

“This is our first game in the second-round and it will be a marathon,” Kananji said.

Lying in agony on position 16 of the log table with just 11 points from 17 matches, Chitipa’s survival chances are slim.

However, Chitipa Coach, Kondwani Mwalweni, said they were in town to prove a point.

Mwalweni downplayed their 2-0 loss to Civil Sporting Club on Monday.

“We have rectified our problems but I must admit that the team is not doing well. We are facing a side that is doing well and I have told my boys to approach the game as they did in the first-round,” Mwalweni said.

The rookies will bank on the prowess of striker Abel Mwakilama who is the subject of transfer speculation to Bullets.

Elsewhere, after opening the second-round with a goal-less draw against Blue Eagles, Silver Strikers have a tricky fixture against Premier Bet Wizards tomorrow.
