OLD wine mellows with age. Veteran forward Chiukepo Msowoya inspired Nyasa Big Bullets’ comeback as they beat Red Lions 2-1 at Bingu National Stadium yesterday to set up a Carlsberg Cup final against rivals Be Forward Wanderers on September 9 at the same Lilongwe venue.

Msowoya produced a moment of magic with a sublime finish in the second-half, beating Lions goalkeeper Jacob Kaunda with a powerful volley to ensure Bullets’ progression to the final. Bullets came back from a goal down to snatch the victory as the soldiers took a first-half lead through Loti Chawinga.

He took it perfectly inside the box, beating Bullets goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe after 26 minutes, but Nelson Kangunje netted the equaliser from the penalty spot. Chawinga was adjudged to have handled in the penalty box.

This will be the second time for the Blantyre giants to meet in the Carlsberg Cup final in three years with Wanderers winning the 2015 final played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe. In a post-match reaction, Lions Assistant Coach, Prichard Mwansa, had no kind words for referee Chidziwitso Simbi.

“It is painful to lose the game considering the way we prepared for it. We are worried with the referee because it was never a hand-ball and he failed to control the game,” Mwansa said.

Bullets Interim Coach, Elia Kananji, said he was looking forward to the final against Wanderers. “We are happy to reach the final and our plan worked well. It will be a tough cup final against Wanderers but we are determined to bring the cup to Bullets,” said Kananji who won the cup with Bullets and also Wanderers the past two season.
