Be Forward Wanderers donated footballs and pumps worth over US $1,000 (about K0.5 million) to Chisamba and Kawale primary schools in Lilongwe on Wednesday.
The Nomads made the donation ahead of their Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup semifinal against Blue Eagles tomorrow at Civo Stadium.
The club’s vice-general secretary, Christopher Kananji, said the donation is part of a consignment of 500 footballs and other items they received from their Japanese sponsors, Be Forward Company Limited.
“Primary schools offer the nursery for football development and the players we are using at Wanderers launched their soccer careers at primary school,” he explained.
“We are giving back to the schools and, at the same time, promoting the Be Forward brand. The pupils are future players for Wanderers and future customers for Be Forward Company.”
Speaking after receiving the donation, headmistress for Chisambi Primary School, Sellina Mbewe, expressed delight with the gift.
“The branded new balls will go a long way in promoting sports at our school. We participate in various competitions and we need such equipment,” Mbewe said.
Wanderers made a similar donation at Kawale Primary School in the capital city.
