Be Forward Wanderers cancel parade bus booking
When Civo United lifted the Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup after beating Be Forward Wanderers 1-0 on Sunday, little did they know that they had inflicted a double blow on the Nomads, who had already made celebration plans.
Wanderers officials, before departure for Lilongwe, paid a K250,000 deposit to hire a double-decker bus from AXA for a victory parade.
The Nomads also made a similar arrangement before they won Carlsberg Cup recently.
However, on Saturday, a late goal from Nelson Kangunje blew the Nomads plans.
A source within Wanderers said they would get back their deposit because it was stipulated in the arrangement.
“The arrangement was clear. We told them that we would get back the money if we failed to win. It did not work, so we will get back our deposit,” said the source.
Wanderers chairperson, George Chamangwana, was elusive on the matter, saying it was an internal arrangement.
“We should not bother. Any team is free to make such arrangements. We did not want to be caught off-guard, and that is why we paid the deposit. However, we will get it back,” he said.
A representative of Axa Bus, Elliot Samu, confirmed that Wanderers hired a double-decker shuttle.
“Of course, they will be given their money back. However, we will make a small deduction which is called disturbance fee. I can’t say how much. However, it was also stipulated in the agreement,” he said.
The Lali Lubani Road outfit were chasing a double following a not-so-impressive run in the TNM Super League.
Wanderers, backed by support from Japanese car dealers, Be Forward Limited, won the Carlsberg Cup when they beat Big Bullets 2-1.
