Be Forward Wanderers crowned champions
Blue, white and orange scarves were the most dominant feature yesterday in Lilongwe as Be Forward Wanderers were officially crowned champions of the 2017 TNM Super League.
Blaring car horns, ululation and champagne were also part of the celebrations after Wanderers sealed their sixth league title with 69 points, following a 1-1 draw with Red Lions at Civo Stadium.
Kumbukani Mwambene scored for the soldiers in the first-half but Mike Kaziputa equalised for the Nomads, who have finished two points ahead of rivals, Nyasa Big Bullets.
The mood was jovial as Wanderers players, for the first time in 11 years, laid their hands on the league’s glittering trophy.
After the final whistle, the players went straight to the eastern stands to celebrate their victory with the fans.
It was a Christmas party for the Nomads family, having showed great character throughout the season in which they only lost three games to Civil Sporting Club, Silver Strikers and Bullets.
In a post-match reaction, Wanderers assistant Coach, Bob Mpinganjira, admitted that it was a tough season.
“We thank the players for a job well done. It was not easy winning the league but we showed great character throughout the season,” Mpinganjira said.
Lions assistant Coach, Yohane Fulaye, said, despite failing to finish in the top-eight, it was a successful season.
High-profile officials, including Director of Sports James on Ndalama, Super League of Malawi President, Innocent Botoman, and TNM official Dan Makata watched the match.
