TNM Super League pacesetters, Be Forward Wanderers, are optimistic that they will sign a sister relationship agreement with Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa’s Premier Soccer League by December.
Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, was responding to The Daily Times’ question on progress of talks between the two clubs.
“Talks are on-going. We should be able to conclude everything by December. We, basically, are looking at a partnership that would enable the two teams to share resources in terms of administrative skills and technical expertise,” Butao said.
He said Chiefs initiated the talks after getting wind of Wanderers’ exploits through the Nomads’ website, among other sources.
“The other advantage is that we have somebody [Jack Chamangwana] in our system that used to be part of Chiefs,” Butao said.
Chamangwana played for, then coached Chiefs from 1985 to the early 1990s before he had a stint with lower league side, Mmabatho Stars, in the Northern Province of South Africa.
The former defender returned home to rejoin Wanderers as coach at the turn of the century.
Chiefs Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, set the ball rolling in August when he visited Wanderers in Lilongwe during camp training ahead of Carlsberg Cup final against Nyasa Big Bullets.
Chiefs’ Malawian Assistant Coach, Patrick Mabedi, confirmed last week that Motaung’s visit to Malawi was for him to learn more about the country “where I come from”.
