Be Forward Wanderers sending two players to Japan

Carlsberg Cup champions, Be Forward Wanderers, expect to lose two of their charges to Japan for trials with unnamed teams

Wanderers’ General Secretary, Mike Butao, said the expected departure of the two players prompted the team to seek replacements in Nigerian winger Adekola Ayinla and striker Ebuka Fabian Ozochukwu.

“The Nigerians were supposed to be with us much earlier. We have been looking forward to their coming and we are finally relieved to have them in our camp,” Butao explained.

Butao did not reveal the identities of the Japan-bound players, whose names have since been forwarded to the team’s sponsor, Be Forward Limited in Japan.

He said his club had sent video clips of several Wanderers’ players.

“We will be sending a midfielder and a striker. This is part of the exposure program being undertaken by our sponsor. The two will be in the custody of Be Forward during the duration of the trials,” Butao explained.

He added that the Nigerian players were sent to the club by former Nigeria captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, and the Nomads will not pay for their transfer fees since they are free agents.

“Okocha wants his players to gain international exposure and the pair will be with us until the end of the season,” Butao said.

Wanderers have in their squad Japanese, Genki Nakamura, and another Nigerian, Amos Bello.

Bello started the season promisingly before eventually losing form whereas Nakamura is yet to stamp his authority at Wanderers. Nonetheless, Nakamura is a fan favourite.
