Be mindful of Covid-19 during festive season— Lazarus Chakwera

State President Lazarus Chakwera has urged people in the country to celebrate the festive season responsibly to avoid catching Covid-19.
Chakwera was speaking to the media in Mangochi after visiting Mangochi District Hospital on Christmas day.
He said Covid-19 cases have started to increase again, which poses a threat, especially if Malawians relax during the festive season since the situation might get worse.
The President urged people in the country to avoid crowded places during the festive season.
“My government has put in place measures to intensify testing so that those found positive can be quarantined to avoid spreading the disease. But you have to be responsible to avoid catching the virus this festive season,” he said.
Chakwera added that his government has intensified testing of people at ports of entries to avoid letting in people who are positive.
He further commended Mangochi District Hospital for its effort in making sure that Covid-19 is controlled and prevented.
He visited the New Maternity Wing at the hospital where he cheered mothers that have just given birth.
On average, the wing, which has a capacity of 400 beds, delivers about 40 live babies a day.
After visiting the wing, the President also cheered patients at the male ward of the hospital.
