Beheaded persons identified

Twenty-four days after three people were found dead in Mitundu Forest in Lilongwe, a relation to the trio Mary Chawinga has identified the three as Daliasa Chawinga, Queen Zgambo Chawinga and Olivia Chawinga.

The three were found by some cattle herders with their heads chopped off.

The herders alerted some elders who later informed the police.

The relation told the police that the three (a family) hailed from Rumphi and left the district on April 9, 2017 to Lilongwe to buy a motor vehicle.

Daliasa, 41, was a head teacher at Monga Primary School in Rumphi while his wife was a businessperson.

Lilongwe Police Spokesperson Kingsely Dandaula has said a postmortem will be done since the three have now been identified.

“The deceased left Rumphi to Lilongwe with an aim of purchasing a car in the capital city but since then, they never reported back. After noticing the prolonged silence and hearing from the media of a case of three people found dead, their relative reported to police on Sunday and was escorted to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where she identified the three,” he said.

Meanwhile, the bodies are at KCH mortuary pending postmortem examinations and collection.

Earlier, the police called upon the public to report to the police if they know of any case of missing people.

The police say they have not arrested anyone on the matter but say they are still investigating.
