Believe, believe, believe

By Patrick Achitabwino:

Whatever you can accomplish, whatever you can accomplish not, whatever is possible in your life just as whatever is impossible in your life, all comes from one source; your belief. If you believe good things will happen to you, good things trek your way. If you believe your life is hopeless and full of miseries then you have gone into the arena of endless disillusionment, failure and despondency.

What belief can do to you is well demonstrated through the placebo effect. People who are told a drug will have a certain effect will many times experience that effect even when given an empty pill with no active properties.

Consider this remarkable placebo study that was carried out on a group of patients with bleeding ulcers. They were divided into two groups. People in the first group were told they were being given a new drug that would absolutely produce relief. Those in the second group were told they were being given an experimental drug, but that very little was known about its effect.

Here comes the study results. Seventy five percent of those in the first group experienced significant relief from their ulcers. Only 25 percent of the second group had a similar result. The truth of the matter however is that in both cases patients received a drug with no medicinal properties at all.

Dr Andrew Well even showcases that experiences of drug users correspond almost exactly to their expectations. Dr Well stresses that, and it seems to be the universal truth; “The magic of drugs resides within the mind of the user, not in the drugs.”

What is in your mind today? Do you have the positive thinking magic which will take you places and see you being a successful story?

It is belief that will move you to paradise or hell in life. The great leadership and motivation speaker Anthony Robbins in the book Unlimited power writes that belief is nothing but a state, an internal representation that governs behaviour.

Robbins writes: “It can be empowering belief in possibility – a belief that we will succeed in something or achieve something else. It can be disempowering belief – a belief that we cannot succeed, that our limitations are clear, intractable, and overwhelming. If you believe in failure, those messages will tend to lead you to experience that as well.”

Great philosophers have always emphasized many times beyond number that whether you can do something or you say you cannot do, you are right. It is imperative to note that both kinds of beliefs have great power. The million dollars question simply is – what kinds of beliefs are best to have?

Anthony Robbins shows us the way when it comes to belief. He reinforces the fact that the birth of excellence begins with our awareness that our beliefs are our choice.

Robbins puts matters in crystal light: “You can choose beliefs that limit you, or you can choose beliefs that support you. The trick is to choose beliefs that are conducive to success and the results you want and to disregard the ones that hold you back.”

The failures you have encountered in your life have been as a result of your beliefs. The same is true of the successes you have registered in your life. You believed you could and eventually you did. Train your mind to disregard negative thoughts.

Negative thoughts take energy and enthusiasm out of you. Negative thoughts nourish negative beliefs and eventually paralyse your progress. You were born to be successful and never allow negative beliefs to derail your progress. Believe in positives and your life will have positivity in abundance.
