Veteran musician Ben Mankhamba of the ‘Moyo wa Mtauni’ fame will tonight perform at Sounds of Malawi Acoustic session for the first time at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.

He returns to Blantyre after another successful outing in the commercial city recently, where he starred with a full band.

But this time, he will go it alone with a few back up members.

He said Wednesday that he was looking forward to sharing his musical story at the platform, which was created three years ago to give a chance to artists in the country to showcase their works.

“This is a session that has done well in terms of showcasing authentic music and, when I was invited to perform, I did not hesitate but accept the call,” Mankhamba, who is also Village Head Chingalire, said.

Mankhamba has been in the limelight at Chingalire Cultural Centre in Lilongwe where he has been hosting cultural and entertainment events aimed at promoting and preserving culture.

Next month, Chingalire Cultural Centre is set to host Pakhonde Ethno Music Camp in partnership with Music Crossroads Malawi.

Host of Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session Waliko Makhala said they were happy to have Mankhamba and called upon people to patronise the event.

“We are set and we are looking forward to another exciting moment with a legend, who has entertained people for years with his local sounds,” Makhala, an ethno-musician, said.

The session last Thursday hosted veteran bassist Felix Jere.

Other artists who have had their performances recently include Leslie Moyo and veteran Patrick Simakweli who took advantage of the platform to celebrate his golden jubilee in music.
