Ben Mankhamba fetes Green Shelter

Veteran music icon Ben Mankhamba on Saturday night gave out a lit acoustic performance at Green Shelter Pub in Area 49, Lilongwe.

His two-hour-thirty minutes performance was full of energy and nothing short of fun.

Mankhamba’s music seems to live the taste of time as some of the songs which he did years back sounded fresh and crispy; no wonder, the audience sang along.

For instance, he dished out ‘Ndiopa Kutenga’, a song that was released 20 years ago and this was a dedication to his son Tinkhawa but it sounded brand new and kept people on the dance floor.

“Performing at Green Shelter is always bliss; the connection with the audience is amazing and I love the energy here,” Mankhamba said.

Backed by Lucky Masasa on keyboards, Mankhamba, who is also Village Head Chingalire, offered songs from his several albums and they included ‘Lucky Day’, ‘Anajere’ and ‘Kamba-nga Mwala’.

Green Shelter Pub has been holding talent shows and performances aimed at uplifting and nurturing talent. This was the second outing for Mankhamba at this venue, having last performed in February.

One of the event organisers Chikondi Maleta said the hub was slowly turning into a creative galaxy for those that wish to share their talent.

“We hope to expose and give a platform to many youths out there that have what it takes to shine,” Maleta said.

One of the patrons, Alfred Sulumba, said Mankhamba offered a refreshing performance that he enjoyed to the fullest.

“I have enjoyed the performance, even though it was acoustic but still more Ben Mankhamba gave out his best and still remains a giant in live music performances, and his songs still stand the taste of time,” Sulumba said.
