South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Bidvest Wits have recalled Malawi under-20 national football team starlet Peter Banda for further trials.

Banda, who returned midweek from the Johannesburg club, is expected to don Wits colours during an intercontinental competition that also attracts reserve teams from Europe.

The development means the Griffin Young Stars scoring machine will leave the under-23 national team camp for the Olympic Games qualifier against Botswana as he is expected to fly out tomorrow.

Banda’s uncle, Griffin Saenda Jnr, said his nephew will be at Wits for another two weeks.

“We have received an invitation from Wits. They want Peter for an inter-continental competition. For now, we are just waiting for his air ticket. The tournament features semi-league players and I believe it will be the right stage for Peter to show them what he is capable of doing,” Saenda Jnr said.

Banda, who has never played for a Super League team in the country, also went to Belgium in September for trials alongside Precious Sambani.

He was at South African crowd-pullers Orlando Pirates to try his luck at professional football.
