Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers, Silver Strikers win
TNM Super League leaders, Be Forward Wanderers, struck late to narrowly beat Azam Tigers 1-0 at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre Sunday for the Nomads to preserve their four-point lead over second-placed Big Bullets and eight points ahead of third-positioned Silver Strikers.
Isaac Kaliyati was Wanderers’ hero with his 86th minute goal which took the Nomads’ tally to 58 points from 25 games, whereas Bullets have 54 points after beating Mzuni FC 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium through Nelson Kangunje’s goal.
Wanderers made some changes as Jabulani Linje was given a rare start whereas budding Precious Sambani was deployed at left-back in the absence of Francis Mlimbika and Ted Sumani. Nenani Juwayo also started in goals ahead of first-choice Richard Chipuwa.
In the first-half, it was a balanced game even though both teams hardly created realistic chances as the pitch was sloppy and muddy.
Just when Tigers were bossing play, Wanderers used their experience to score through Kaliati who connected home a cross from Jafali Chande.
The goal brought relief and joy to Wanderers Coach, Yasin Osman.
“It was a tough game and we had to take a gamble and throw in more attacking players and we were duly paid,” he said while Tigers Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, said they were upset because they gave away three points.
In Mzuzu, Kangunje scored with two minutes to play for Bullets whose striker Chiukepo Msowoya had missed a penalty in the 26th minute.
Elsewhere, third-placed Silver thrashed Chitipa United 3-0 to take the Bankers’ tally to 50 points. The top three teams have played 25 games each.
