Barely days after signing Zimbabwean left-winger, Silver Chawe, Nyasa Big Bullets are reportedly on the verge of recruiting Chitipa United forward Abel Mwakilama.

Mwakilama has been a long term target for Bullets and Moyale Barracks.

Chitipa General Secretary (GS), Marshall Mwenechanya, on Tuesday confirmed to have agreed with Bullets on a K2.5 million transfer fee for the former Malawi Under-20 National Football Team forward.

“Indeed, the two clubs have agreed a K2.5 million fee. We have come a long way because we set a K5 million price-tag on him.

“Later, it came down to K3 million, but it was today [Tuesday] that we agreed that they will sign him for K2.5 million. We have accepted the offer and now it is up to the player and Bullets to agree personal terms,” he said.

He added that the club wanted to hold on to the 20-year-old forward, but the team needs money.

“He is a promising star, who is still growing. But since the club needs money, we had no option but accept the offer,” Mwenechanya added.

However, Bullets interim GS, Albert Chigoga, expressed ignorance on the prospect of signing Mwakilama.

“I cannot say anything about that because the club does not have such plans. Of course, we were previously interested in the player, but I do not know about us making another move for him,” he said.

Mwakilama netted 38 goals in 35 games to earn Chitipa Super League promotion last year.

He has scored three goals in 15 games for Chitipa in the Super League’s first-round.

Moyale failed to sign the youngster in the last transfer window after failing to honour Chitipa’s asking price of K1 million for the player.
