A grand opening deserves a grand closing. The curtain comes down on the 2020/21 football season this afternoon as Nyasa Big Bullets will officially retain the TNM Super League title.

It was a different season, as it was suspended for some months due to Covid-19 pandemic. On top of that, the matches had been played behind closed doors due to restrictions as a result of the pandemic.

But finally, the last matches of the season will be played today between Bullets and Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium whereas third-placed Mighty Wanderers host Moyale Barracks at Mpira Stadium.

The climax on the last day will be the crowning of Bullets, who retained the title for the third consecutive season.

This is Bullets’ 15th record title in domestic football.

In addition, Karonga are also likely to offer guard of honour to Bullets before the kickoff. Bullets retained the title with one game to spare after collecting 59 points whereas Silver Strikers, who defeated Ekwendeni Hammers 2-0 in their last match, finished second with 58 points.

But on the part of Karonga, they have a chance to finish in the paid ranks if they beat Bullets this afternoon.

With a win, Karonga will overtake fourth placed Civo Service United.

Surely, the match between Bullets and Karonga promises to be an exciting one.

Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has the luxury of featuring fridge players in today’s match. However, Pasuwa described the season as the toughest ever.

“We will not relax until the last match of the season. This is also an important match and we need to win to finish on a high,” Pasuwa added.

Bullets lost 1-0 to Karonga in the first round.

Karonga boss Dan Dzinkambani said his troops will spoil Bullets coronation party.

“The players are to fight and show that they are also good,” the former coach for defunct MDC United said.

At Mpira Stadium, Wanderers will also be looking for revenge against Moyale after they lost 1-0 in the first round.

The Nomads are already assured of third spot even if they lose today’s match.

Moyale are on position six with 45 points from 29 matches.

Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) General Secretary Williams Banda has called on fans to adhere to all Covid-19 precautionary measures.

“We would like to remind our beloved fans that those that were vaccinated and those willing to be vaccinated at the stadium are welcome to watch the game. Covid-19 is still a health issue in the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, TNM Brands and Head of Marketing Madalitso Jonazi said the company will interact with their customers in some parts of Blantyre City before the final game of the season.

“We have lined up a number of activities including introducing to our customers the products we offer as we celebrate end of the 2021 season,” Jonazi said.
