Big Bullets, Nomads fans demand money

Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers supporters continue to milk their respective clubs.

The latest incident happened last Monday at Kamuzu Stadium where, despite already being paid, the supporters demanded extra money from gate revenue.

The initial agreement was that 20 supporters from each team (Bullets and Wanderers) were to be included in the security set up of the Luso TV Bus Ipite Bonanza and earn allowances.

However, details have emerged that contrary to the agreement, Bullets’ and Wanderers’ two influential fans demanded additional K170, 000 each from Luso TV.

The supporters warned that failure to pay them could lead to chaos at the stadium.

The organisers complied and paid the fans extra money, despite doing so without the blessing of their respective executive committees.

Asked for his comment, Wanderers’ General Secretary, Mike Butao, was shocked by the development and wondered why Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and Luso did not consult the club before paying the fan.

“Supporters need to be sensitised by the leaders that supporting a club by being in the executive or supporters committees is not a career to make a living from. These are social positions which we vied for because we each made a personal decision that the positions will not interfere in our businesses or careers,” Butao explained.

“It is very sad that while players are working selflessly to bring a bus to their respective clubs, instead of appreciating , other people are busy looking for ways to benefit from all this. All stakeholders need to work closely to halt this rot in football.”

Bullets Chairperson, Noel Lipipa, said his side’s supporters were entitled to a 10 percent cut from the team’s gate revenue share.

Luso TV Station Manager, Dick Juma, confirmed paying only 20 supporters from each club.

The supporters of the two teams usually get about 12 percent of their respective clubs gate revenue cut every match.
