Big Bullets, Nomads reserves clash

Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers reserve sides meet at BAT Ground in Blantyre on Saturday to rekindle their seniors’ rivalry.

The reserve sides will battle for maximum points in the second-tier Chitetezo Mbaula Southern Region Premier Division first-round match.

The two sides clash barely a week after the seniors met in the Airtel Top 8 semi-final which The People’s Team won 2-1.

In the TNM Super League, Bullets lead the standings. Seemingly emulating their seniors, Bullets Reserve top the Premier Division log table with 18 points from six games.

Bullets Reserve whacked hosts Fomo United 4-0 last Saturday at Mulanje Park Stadium, thanks to Mohammed Kajore’s hat-trick and Wilton Kaunda’s goal.

However, Nomads Reserve lost 1-0 to Mtopwa FC over the weekend.

Wanderers Reserve are on fifth position with nine points.

Southern Region Football Association Vice-General Secretary, Kingsley Simbeye, said, despite the season’s late kick-off, the league has started on a high.

Simbeye said, although Bullets Reserve are undefeated, teams such as Cobbe Barracks, Mtopwa and Steffords have piled pressure on the leaders.

“We are on track because we have not received complaints about officiation as was the case last season. We are now into week five but let us wait until we get to week 10 when most teams would have played their games in hand,” he said.

He added that spectators will pay K500 to watch the Bullets-Wanderers reserves’ match.

Cobbe are on second place with 15 points after whitewashing Mangochi Challengers 5-0 on Monday.

In other games, Cobbe meet Polytechnic at Gymkana Ground on Saturday, MDF Marine welcome Mtopwa at Monkey Bay and Chikwawa United host Jali Rangers.

Elsewhere, Airbone Rangers lead the Chipiku Central Region Premier Division with 25 points from 12 matches while Mlatho Mponela are on second position with 24 points from 13 matches.

Dedza Young Soccer occupy third slot with 23 points from 14 matches.

In Simso Northern Region Premier Division, Chitipa United top the log table with 22 points from eight matches followed by Ekwendeni Hammers with 20 points from 10 matches whereas Manyamula lie third, also with 20 points.
