Big Bullets panic ahead of Mafco battle

LOOTED—Shops in South Africa

TNM Super League champions Big Bullets are panicking over the absence of four players ahead of this afternoon’s game against Mafco at Kamuzu Stadium.

The People’s Team would be without injured right-back Pilirani Zonda and also winger Fischer Kondowe and defenders Yamikani Fodya and Bashir Maunde. The trio is with the Malawi national football team at the on-going Cosafa Cup in South Africa.

After letting Red Lions to come from behind and snatch a late point, anxiety has gripped the Bullets camp and entertaining any slip-ups would derail their efforts to retain the title.

Bullets are third on the table with 11 points from five games and they trail second-placed Mafco by a point. However, the Salima-based soldiers have played one more game. Currently, Be Forward Mighty Wanderers are topping the table.

Bullets technical director, Billy Tewesa, said the absence of the four players had disturbed their game plan.

“If Zonda was okay we could not have complained but we will honour the fixture. However, we still have ready replacements and we will fight tooth and nail to win. We know each and every team puts in extra effort whenever they are meeting us,” he said.

Bullets’ player of the moment Eneya Banda has been a revelation this season with his vision and ball distribution skills.

Former professional Chiukepo Msowoya, Jafalie Chande and goal minder Owen Chaima have also enjoyed good moments with Bullets at this stage of the season.

However, Mafco coach, Stereo Gondwe, said their intent was to return to the summit of the table.

“We have the arsenal to do that. Every team prepares to win, so there is nothing strange with our plans,” he said.

Callisto Kalinda, Zasher Nong’oneza and Paul Phiri are expected to spearhead Mafco in this grueling encounter.
