Big Bullets players against three officials

Trouble is brewing in Big Bullets after players threatened to continue boycotting training unless three officials, including the club’s general secretary, Titha Mandiza, are removed.

The confusion threatens to hamper Bullets’ chances in the Standard Bank Knock-Out Trophy as they are expected to face Civo United on October 15 2015 in a semifinal tie.

Bullets players boycotted training on Tuesday at Kamuzu Stadium where they expressed their anger over poor gate collections during Saturday’s TNM Super League derby against Be Forward Wanderers.

The bone of contention is the K16 million gross which the derby raised. The first round match, which their rivals Wanderers hosted, grossed about K26.8 million.

The players have vowed not to report for training unless Mandiza, supporters’ committee secretary, Mabvuto Chibambo, and supporters’ treasurer Bruce Tambwali are fired. The players could not provide the link between the three officials and the issue of gate collections.

Bullets team manager, Rahim Ishmael, confirmed that the players signed a petition on Tuesday at the stadium demanding the immediate removal of Mandiza, Chibambo and Tambwali.

“The players are not happy because they did not get their upkeep allowance among others. So, they have stated that they will not train unless the three are removed,” he said.

However, Mandiza, denied being connected to the firm and accused some quarters within the team of trying to tarnish the image of fellow officials.

“Some of those officials who are behind this were not elected. They were incorporated into the system. I cannot steal from Bullets I have been supporting this team for ages. In fact, I work for a reputable organisation which also pays well. I am satisfied with what I have,” she said.

On his part, Chibambo said the claims were baseless and there was need to wait for Super League of Malawi investigations on the matter.

“I am not worried with whatever is happening because we achieved what we wanted. Last season, we won a double and this time we can repeat it. Some of the players called me disassociating themselves from the petition. I will spill more beans because officials whom we incorporated are behind this,” he said.
