Big Bullets register 1,000 fans
BY ISAAC SALIMA:
The fan base for Malawi’s most successful football club, Nyasa Big Bullets, keeps on growing with 1,000 fans added in on going membership registration exercise, said Fleetwood Haiya, the club’s Chief Executive Officer.
A fortnight ago, Bullets revived the exercise after it failed a few years ago.
Haiya said over 1,000 members have registered so far.
“We are very grateful to the fans for their response. We have already exceeded the 1,000-mark, just days after the exercise was launched. We hope that, by the end of this month, we would have registered over 5,000 fans,” Haiya said.
He said after hitting the 5,000-mark, they would have an official launch of the drive.
Haiya said they would like to reach out to more supporters in remote areas by increasing machinery for registration.
The cards are in categories of Platinum for K100,000, Gold K50,000, Silver K25,000 and Maule K1,000.
Haiya said most fans are opting for the cards pegged at K1,000.
Assuming that all the 1,000 supporters bought the K1,000 cards, this would translate to K1 million.
Commenting on the development, Mulanje District Bullets Supporters Committee Chairperson, Charles Phiri, has since asked the team to reach out to more supporters in rural areas.
A similar exercise, which flopped a few years ago, registered less than 1,000 members.
Bullets reportedly boast a fan-base of over two million across the country. Registered fans will enjoy benefits such as funeral cover and easy access to games.
