Big Bullets rope in Suzgo Nyirenda as CEO

AIMING HIGH—Bullets take on Mighty Wanderers

Suzgo Nyirenda

TNM Super League defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets have taken a bold step in their commercialisation process after hiring former Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Vice General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda as the club’s chief executive officer.

Nyirenda, who is also former Football Association of Malawi (Fam) general secretary, has since May 1 replaced Escort Chinula.

In a statement, which Bullets released on Sunday evening, the Peoples Team described Nyirenda as an able man and experienced football administrator.

Bullets Vice President Fleetwood Haiya said Nyirenda’s hiring was one of the steps they were taking to transform the side from a community team to a professional marketable brand.

“He (Nyirenda) is a man with huge experience in football administration. When we took over the team some three years ago, we made it clear that we wanted to develop the standards of the team from being a community club into a more attractive team with quality players that will be able to generate results on the pitch and also maintain the club’s rich history,” he said.

Haiya did not hide the team’s disappointment after failing to post profits despite being reputed at crowd pullers.

“We are fully aware we have not been able to utilise our huge fanbase at the club. It is our hope with support of everybody and all stakeholders that we should be able to move to the next level administratively,” he said.

Nyirenda did not pick our calls.

But Bullets Council Member Jim Kalua felt Nyirenda’s appointment will bring a big difference to the team and also commended the outgoing Chinula.
