Nyasa Big Bullets’ second choice goalkeeper, Chimwemwe Kumkwawa, is still rated highly despite playing second fiddle to Ernest Kakhobwe, who is injured.
Bullets’ Team Manager, Rahim Ishmael, commented about Kumkwawa after he had mixed fortunes in a Fisd Challenge Cup game against Premier Bet Wizards at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
Bullets won the game 5-4 on post-match penalties.
“Of course, he has not been playing for some time but we still have faith in him. When we travelled, he had a clean sheet in two games in Mzuzu,” Ishmael said.
The game ended two-all in regulation time in which Kumkwawa struggled between the sticks.
Kumkwawa turned from villain to hero when he stopped three penalties to inspire the People’s Team to victory.
“It was good for him to save three penalties and this proves that we have good goalkeepers,” Ishmael added.
Kumkwawa said he believes in his skill and he would fight to play regularly.
“Every player desires to play regularly. It is the only way that helps one to gain confidence and improve performance,” he said.
Kumkwawa was voted Bullets’ goalkeeper of-the season during the team’s gala on December 31 last year.
However, at the start of the season, Kumkwawa was demoted to third choice behind Kakhobwe and Owen Chaima, who eventually left for Tanzania.
