The highly anticipated Energem International Bonanza kicks off this afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre with the participating four teams aiming at the same target.

Coaches for Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers are expected to use the pre-season competition to assess their squads before the 2020 season gets underway.

The two giants have Zimbabwe’s Chicken Inn and UD Songo of Mozambique to gauge their prowess in a bonanza that runs up to Sunday.

However, Songo were yet to arrive in the country as we went to press Thursday.

Following the change, last year’s runners-up Wanderers face Chicken Inn whereas hosts Bullets date Songo.

Games will continue tomorrow with Wanderers taking on Songo before Bullets lock horns with Chicken Inn.

On the last day of the showpiece, Songo will line up against Chicken Inn in the first encounter before Bullets and Wanderers close the stage with a Blantyre derby.

The team with the most points at the end of the contest will carry the day.

Wanderers Assistant Coach, Oscar Kaunda, said winning the bonanza will give them a boost in their preparations for the new season.

“We need to restore our supporters’ confidence in the team by winning. It is my wish to help the team win the trophy. We have some new players and we need to blend them with our experienced players,” Kaunda said.

The Lali Lubani Road side has signed Mzuzu Warriors defender Lughano Kayira and promoted Wisdom Mpinganjira from the Reserve side.

Chicken Inn Coach, Joey Antipas, said the competition was a good litmus test for his side.

“We want to do better than last time. We will be trying some new players as well,” Antipas said.

Bullets Coach, Kallisto Pasuwa, said the bonanza would help him finalise preparations for the new season.

“Some of our players were injured last season and this will be their opportunity to prove that they are back. Even those who did not enjoy much game-time will be given a chance.

“If they cannot fit in such pre-season games, it will be difficult for them to play in the TNM Super League. There is always pressure for results at Bullets, so we need players who will help us deliver,” Pasuwa said.

The following is the revised fixture:
