Non – Governmental Organisation (NGO), Yohane Banda Foundation, has organised a big walk from Blantyre to Zomba aimed at removing street kids from the commercial city-Blantyre.
The big walk will be held on November 7 and the city’s Mayor Councillor Wild Ndipo and other dignitaries are expected to participate.
Banda said they target to raise over K3 million in their bid to empower the kids’ homes by involving their parents in business or skills.
“We will offer startup capital to those aged 17 years and above. They shall be imparted with income generating skills. After economically empowering the first 10 families we will target the next 10.
“Through the authorities, we shall hold the parents accountable for their children if they shall return to the streets and we shall also work with the police,” he said.
Banda said the foundation has so far partnered with Frost Premium Water, Kips, FG Investments, Paulendo and Blantyre City Council.
“Those interested to take part in the big walk can register at a fee of K10,000 and get a fundraising form. Donations can be deposited to the following bank account: National Bank; Account Name: Yohane Banda Foundation; Branch: Mandala; Account Number 1005624122,” he said.
Yohane Banda Foundation was founded and registered as an NGO in 2015 with a mission to empower vulnerable groups through economic activities.
