It has been ages since musician Billy Kaunda held a big show that featured a feast of his music, music from other acts and other art activities.
But that chance has befallen him again as the veteran musician gets set to launch a double – a book titled Hills and Valleys that tells his story and an album of hymn songs at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe Friday.
“I have had great shows in the past in my music career but this is big. God has been great to walk with me all these years and this is why I thought of coming up with an autobiography. So launching a book and an album of hymn songs makes me happy,” the ‘Mwapindilanji’ creator said.
He said he has been having sleepless nights preparing for the double launch.
“I am prepared. Despite having other things in my palms, I have had to sacrifice more for this concert. All I can say is that I am ready for this,” he said.
The Member of Parliament and former deputy Cabinet minister will share the stage with different acts during the double launch and they include comedy by Winiko and Jakobo.
Skeffa Chimoto, Lulu, Faith Mussa and Kell Kay are the other acts performing at the double launch.
Billy said Hills and Valleys details his story and that it simply means the ups and downs “I have experienced during my long walk to where I am today”.
“My life is like most people’s lives. It is not always smooth and it is not always hard. People have known me through my music and politics but they had no idea about how all that came to be, hence the book written by Wonderful Mkhutche,” he said.
Levi Msakambewa, who is managing the event, said Wednesday Billy is all set and ready to entertain people.
