Binwel Katinji on demand in eSwatini

By Mabvuto Kambuwe:

Eswatini Premier Soccer League leaders Green Mamba have expressed interest in signing in-form striker Binwell Katinji after his impressive performance in the first round.

Katinji, who joined Malanti Chiefs from Silver Strikers before the start of the season, has been in form, having netted six goals for his club.

The sterling performance has caught the attention of giants Mamba, who want to bolster their squad in the second round.

According to Times of Swaziland, discussions between the player’s agent and the leaders are at an advanced stage.

“Green Mambas has tabled a dangling offer for the player and he is set to join them next weekend,” Times of Swaziland reports.

“Mambas have identified Katinji as the right candidate to bolster their squad as they hunt for the league title and the remaining Eswatini Bank Cup.”

But when contacted Sunday, Katinji refused to speak on the matter.

Mamba Chief Executive Officer, Thamie Phakati, told Times of Swaziland that he would comment on the issue once the team resumes training from festive season’s holidays.

The Malawian took the Eswatini Premier Soccer League by storm when he scored six goals in the opening four games.

But his three goals were cancelled as his club was found guilty of featuring him without proper documents.

Katinji was one of the key players for Silver but his career took a dive due to injuries.

He made headlines after scoring two goals as Malawi drew 2-2 against Chinese side Guangzhou R&F during the opening of Bingu National Stadium in early 2017.
