Malawi National Football Team attacker Peter Banda endured a bittersweet moment on Wednesday when he scored the only goal for Tanzanian giants Simba SC but ended up picking an injury that has left him in crutches.
Banda curled the ball into the net behind the goalkeeper after making a run on the left to help Simba pick a point in a 1-1 draw with Singida Big Stars.
However, the former Nyasa Big Bullets star did not finish the match as he picked an injury and was pulled out.
Banda tweeted Thursday that he was excited to score but will miss action due to the injury.
“Thursday I was very excited to get my name back on the scoresheet although we didn’t manage to secure all three points.
“On top of that, I picked an injury which will require me to be out for sometimes. I promise to get back even stronger because I am a fighter, and thank you all for your encouraging messages,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
Simba extended best wishes to Banda through their Facebook page post that reads: “We wish you a speedy recovery PB.”
The result saw Simba and Singida maintaining an 18-point apiece tie after nine and 10 matches, respectively.
However, Simba are third on the log table courtesy of a better goal difference of 13 against fourth-placed Singida’s three.
