HAS FOUND NEW LEASE OF LIFE—Chembezi

Malawi National Football Team defender Dennis Chembezi has signed a one-year deal with South Africa’s Division One side Black Leopards.

Chembezi joins from Polokwane City who released him over four months ago and will link up with compatriot Rafick Namwera.

Former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers team manager Steve Madeira, who facilitated the deal, said Chembezi’s work permit will be ready in a week.

“Dennis is indeed at Black Leopards now and all we are just waiting for is his work permit which should be ready in a week. The development is good for him and the national team. We expect him to get game time at his new team,” Madeira said.

After parting ways with Polokwane, Chembezi was on the verge of returning to his former club Wanderers but preliminary talks broke down.

Flames coach Mario Marinica has described the move as a good development.

“Dennis is one of our regular players and needs to be fully fit all the time. When he is playing, we are happy. Signing for Leopards is good for him as well as the national team,” Marinica said.

Chembezi partnered Lawrence Chaziya at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in January.

This helped him cement a starting position in Marinica’s line-up.
