Blantyre and District Netball League (BDNL) plans to conclude the 2021 Rainbow Paints league season before the end of the year have vanished into thin air.

This is after Imosys Netball Club contributed bulk of players to the Malawi Under-18 National Netball Team currently competing at Region 5 Games in Maseru, Lesotho.

BDNL General Secretary Annie Hanjahanja said it was impossible to finish the season on December 11 as earlier planned.

“Everything was on track to conclude the season on December 11 but with the latest development it means the season will likely end next year. Of course, we might try to fix games when Imosys will have its full squad. However chances of finishing the season this year were very unlikely,” Hanjahanja said.

Following the development, the league will continue fixing games that do not involve Imosys.

Nevertheless, Hanjahanja said it has been an exciting season which was full of surprising results.

“Teams like Polytechnic Sisters [now Muhes] defied odds. For the first time, Polytechnic defeated Chilomoni Sisters. It is without doubt that Poly is the most improved side,” she said.

Currently, First Choice Tigresses are strong contenders to win the championship.

Tigresses are topping the table with a perfect record having humbled their rivals Kukoma Diamonds and Imosys in the first round.
