Organisers of Blantyre Arts Festival (Baf) have said the festival is on this year and that they will be announcing the dates soon.
With other top festivals in the country such as Sand Music and Lake of Stars having announced their dates, Baf is yet to come out on the dates. Since its inception, the festival is held the first week of October.
To show that they are making progress in their preparations, the organisers have indicated that they will be coming up with the Fit for Life project next month as part of warm up.
Last year, Baf also organised the Fit for Life initiative which saw them training the youth in some district in the Southern Region in entrepreneurship as well as art.
“The festival is on without fail. And with that said, we have the Fit for Life – Women and Girls Rights which will take place in six districts where we will train women and girls in entrepreneurship and arts and craft,” Baf’s Public Relations Officer and Marketing Manager, Luckier Chikopa, said yesterday.
Chikopa said the training will also help in unearthing talent but also at the same time help the players in stitching poems and use them for voicing out their various challenges.
“We will work with the people and teach them how to write poems and how they can flame their messages. At the end of it all, the team will then have a chance of performing at the main festival but also showcase their different artworks. As Baf, we are not only there to hold performances but we are also there to empower people especially in rural areas to utilise their talents,” she said.
Since its inception in 2009, Baf has hosted different local and international artists.
