Blantyre City Council gears for 2019 welcome

As the world gets set to welcome 2019 and say good bye to 2018, Blantyre City Council (BCC) has teamed up with stakeholders such as Team Entertainers and Castel Malawi to host a Fireworks Family Night on New Year’s Eve.

The Fireworks Night will be held at Old Town Hall on the Victoria Avenue Street starting from 6pm.

Unlike last year, when the fireworks night was not rich in performances, this time around, people will be treated to performances from, among others, veteran musician Sir Paul Banda and Alleluya Band crew of Paul Subiri and Coss Chiwalo.

BCC spokesperson, Anthony Kasunda, said Sunday all is set for the Fireworks Family Night when they want people to celebrate and welcome the New Year.

“This is not a bash by the way; it is a Fireworks Family Night where we want people to come and welcome 2019 in style. We are calling upon families to come with their children to be part of this Fireworks Night. This year, it will be exceptional because we have got a unique set of fireworks.

“This year, we have worked with Castel Malawi who will be there to supply different drinks and then we also have Team Entertainers who will mount a big stage for performances. We have artists who will service everyone’s needs. For the older generation, we have Sir Paul Banda,” Kasunda said.

He also said people should not worry about security as they have hired a good number of police officers, who will be on the lookout.

Team Entertainers’ Jai Banda, popularly known as Mr Entertainer, said, this being the grand entry into 2019, people will be given a massive treat.

“We will have a big stage with lights and smoke. So, we are ready, and we would like to thank Blantyre City Council for bringing us in,” Jai said.

He said during the event they will also have other acts including Charles Sinetre, Waliko Makhala and Six Solid Band.

Meanwhile, Bossaro Music Group will hold a Green and Gold Gala today at Blue Elephant in Blantyre whereas Raised for a Purpose Ministries will also hold music and arts awards at the Tent of His Love and Glory which is near Robin’s Park in Blantyre.

At M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe, Phindu Promotions will hold a New Year Cross Over featuring Soldier Lucius Banda, Sam Smack, Nepman and Skeffa Chimoto.

Phindu will also host a Crossover to 2019 today at Squirrels Park in Mzuzu featuring Black Missionaries, Anthony Makondetsa, Fitzgerald Simfukwe, Positive Yut, Khozie Masimbe and Yanjanani Chumbu.
