A record K27,398,420 gross was realised from gate collections during the TNM Super League match involving Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

This surpasses last season’s first round gate revenue where K26 million was raised during the Blantyre derby.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) General Secretary, Williams Banda, was satisfied with the collections.

“We should thank the Police and stewards for working well. There were no cases of pitch invasion and supporters had to pay at the gates. Above all, we salute the supporters for behaving,” he said.

From the gate collections, Bullets and Wanderers received K5 million each whereas Kamuzu Stadium pocketed a similar amount as ground levy.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and Sulom each received K2.3 million while Malawi National Council of Sports got K1.1 million.

Police received K952,500 while stewards got K832,000.

Event management company, Fama, received K1,917,889.

Other service providers shared K400,000.

Bullets’ Acting General Secretary, Kelvin Moyo, said there was nothing unusual with the gate collections.

“Of course, the turnout and revenue was good. In terms of the clubs’ share, it will remain the same case because most of the percentage is taken by some quarters,” he said.

Wanderers’ General Secretary, Mike Butao, said as hosts they expected to raise K35 million.

“The cash seems ok but the cash is always high in these derby fixtures when it is a Wanderers’ home match. I will be able to comment more after I see the reconciliation because the projected revenue was close to K35m. It is sad though that out of K27 million, the clubs only get to share K11 million. This is almost slavery,” Butao said.

Bullets grabbed the Blantyre derby’s bragging rights after beating Wanderers 1-0 through a Kondwani Kumwenda’s 21st minute tap-in.
