Blantyre giants charged

BAD ENDING—Players react after being tear gassed

Local football powerhouses Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets have been summoned for hearing, having been charged with various offences over the fracas which marred their TNM Super League Blantyre derby last week.

The two teams are expected to appear before a disciplinary hearing at Oleens Boardroom opposite Chayamba Building in Blantyre tomorrow after the match ended in the 80th minute.

“Wanderers and Bullets as a home team and visiting team respectively failed to control the actions of their supporters who threw bottles, stones and other objects contrary to articles 21(2), 21(6) and 21(9) of the Sulom Rules and Regulations.

“Wanderers supporters threw onto the pitch bottles, stones and other objects during the official league match against Bullets. Bullets failed to control the improper conduct which included invading the pitch where a suspected Bullets supporter threw some liquid substances on the goal,” reads the statement in part.

The summon also stated that Wanderers supporters, dressed in blue and white, interrupted the normal proceedings of the game which forced the officiating team to stop the game for at least 15 minutes while security officials were trying to address the situation.

Additionally, Wanderers fans and players have been accused of insulting and harassing female referee Bernadette Kwimbira, who was part of the officiating team as first assistant referee.

However, Wanderers Chairperson Chancy Gondwe said they will address all the issues which Sulom raised.

“Our legal team is meeting on the same and we should be able to respond to these matters as demanded by Sulom,” he said.

Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga also confirmed the summon but pledged to cooperate.

“We will respond to the allegations made by Sulom but we may not love to pre-empt our stand in the media as this might jeopardise justice in the matter,” he said.
