Blantyre Lions Club donates eye glasses to hospital
The Lions Club of Blantyre last week donated 30 kilogrammes of used eye glasses to Blantyre-based Lions Eye Hospital.
According to Lions Club former president and director of the Club, Lion Vikesh Vanzara, the club decided to donate after noticing that there are a lot of people who are failing to buy glasses on their own.
The donated glasses, which are estimated to be around 3000 pieces, were sourced by United Kingdom-based, Lion Harjit Dhanoa, who is an ex-member of Lions Club of Capital City after Vinzara approached him for help.
“This donation will go a long way in reducing the problems of accessing eye glasses. These donated glasses, which can be used for reading and other eye-related purposes, will be given out to underprivileged people for free,” Vanzara said.
He then thanked Dhanoa and other well-wishers in the United Kingdom for sourcing the glasses and Air Cargo for bringing the glasses to Malawi almost for free
