Blantyre Sports Club in tennis initiative

Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) has planned an ambitious tennis project targeting its members and students from public primary and secondary schools.

BSC has partnered Joanne Trataris, Head Coach of Glan Aber Tennis Club in the United Kingdom, to run a tennis coaching clinic from June 7 to 18.

According to BSC Marketing Manager, Mercy Kanjo, the initiative is also targeting the wider community.

“Joanne is qualified and licensed with the Lawn Tennis Association. He has many years of experience. She lived in Malawi during her childhood and took an active role in hockey, golf and tennis at Blantyre Sports Club, that is why she is coming back to give two weeks of her time to the club free of charge,” she said.

Kanjo added that BSC coaches, Hackson Mmethiwa, Julius Taulo, James Matewere and Allan Alidi will also undergo a refresher coaching course. Ball-boys and hitting partners will also attend a leaders’ course.

“Joanne’s determination to assist the BSC tennis section has stretched as far as fundraising to provide rackets, balls, and other tennis related equipment to be used during her coaching sessions. We hope that this exposure to tennis will spring board the sport back to the club and encourage interest in tennis and encourage new members to join,” he said.
