Blantyre Sports Club Theatre back
After their performance last year, when they won the hearts of the audience, Blantyre Sports Club Theatre Section is back with another production titled Puss in Boots to be staged Fridayand Saturday.
St Andrews High School drama teacher, Kevin Troughton, who is part of the cast, confirmed the development yesterday.
Troughton said Puss in Boots is a play in the traditional British theatre style known as Pantomime.
“Pantomime is a style with many recognisable characteristics. There are certain male characters played by women and female characters played by men to create more comedy. All the characters are played in a much exaggerated [way] and over the top,” he said.
Troughton added that there are chances for the audience to get involved by, for example, replying to words actors say on stage.
“Pantomimes are usually based on traditional fairy tales. We are excited to stage this play and we have been having rehearsals,” he said.
The drama teacher said over 50 people are involved on stage, or backstage, adding that the play has been directed by Ray Leathart.
“The performances are already sold out and it will not be possible to get tickets on the night,” Troughton said
