Blessings Tembo’s transfer sparks debate

Some Silver Strikers former players have reacted angrily to the Bankers’ decision to let go captain Blessings Tembo, who has completed a free transfer to Be Forward Wanderers.
The former players vented their anger on Silver’s Executive Committee through their Facebook postings.
The Daily Times had, as we went to press, not yet sought permission from the former players to publish their comments in the newspaper.
“Silver Strikers FC Executive committee is a big shame! They released our captain Lucky Malata and now they have let Blessings Tembo go! Team yangosanduka academy [the team has been turned into an academy]! Tinyozeka [we will be embarrassed]!,” a former winger wrote.
Another former player for Silver, who now plays in the Mozambique league, lashed out at the executive for being selfish.
“Executive ya Silver yachuluka anthu osadziwa zampira [the executive is full of people who have no idea about football administration],” he wrote.
Silver interim General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, yesterday dismissed assertions that they allowed Tembo to leave, saying they were discussing his contract extension.
“We think he would regret the decision. I think he has been ill-advised. All indications were there that he would sign for us, only to learn from the social media that he had signed for Wanderers. We were also shocked to see the photos,” Nyirenda said.
