Fisd Challenge Cup champions, Blue Eagles, have rejected a request from Mozambique side, UD Songo, to release their captain John CJ Banda.
CJ Banda’s one year contract, with an option for one year extension at Songo, expired in December last season.
Eagles chairperson, Alexander Ngwala, said they were clinging to Banda as Songo breached their agreement.
“Songo did not fulfill their contractual obligation. The agreement was that they should send 75 percent of the transfer fee and finish the remainder later of which they did not do. So we have told them CJ is not coming until they send us our cut,” Ngwala said.
Interestingly, deposed Mozambique champions, have completed the signing of Eagles striker, Schumacher Kuwali, on a year-long contract.
Kuwali scored eight league goals this season and four goals in Fisd Challenge Cup as Eagles went on to lift the cup.
Ngwala said they finalised everything with Songo to allow the forward to join the Mocambola League outfit
“When it comes to the transfer of Kuwali, we don’t have problems because we finalised everything and shortly he will leave for Mozambique,” he said.
Eagles are also eyeing the Caf confederation after winning the Fisd Challenge Cup.
Meanwhile, Kamuzu Barracks central midfielder, Chikoti Chirwa, is expected to leave this country for South Africa where he will undergo trials with two clubs.
The Flames midfielder said he would attend one week trials with South Africa Premier Soccer League side, Amazulu, and later at National First Division side, Richard Bay FC.
“I just hope everything will work out,” he said.
However KB general secretary, Steve Kakuza, refused to comment as they were still processing paperwork.
