Blue Eagles cry foul over fixture

Blue Eagles have hit at Super League of Malawi (Sulom) for keeping them idle over the weekend when fellow TNM Super League title contenders Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers were in action.

The team’s chairperson Alexander Ngwala said it did not make sense for Eagles to stay idle when their opponents, TN Stars, were also free.

According to the fixture which Sulom released, Stars will host Eagles at Kasungu Stadium on Sunday.

Ngwala said Sulom should have given Eagles a match before the Flames left for Cosafa Cup.

“It seems Sulom favours Blantyre-based teams. Bullets’ game against Sable Farming was rescheduled to Friday from Saturday whereas Wanderers match was pushed to Saturday from Sunday. If they were fair, they would have given us the match during the same period,” he said.

Ngwala said they have asked Sulom to postpone the match.

“We have written them (Sulom) to reschedule our fixture. We want to play after the Flames return from the Cosafa Cup because our three players, Sankhani Mkandawire, Micium Mhone and Schumacher Kuwali, will be in action.

“Secondly, we will not play if they do not take heed of our request. We are asking the league to level the playing field. It was agreed that whenever the national team has assignments, then Super League matches will be cancelled. Why are we going against the rule now?” Ngwala asked.

However, Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda said they were following rules and regulations of the game.

“Our stand is that the TN Stars versus Blue Eagles fixture stands and, if one team decides not to play, rules will apply. Rules clearly say a team can only be exempted from playing games if they contribute more than three players to the national team,” Banda said.

Eagles are 11 points behind leaders Bullets, having played a match less.
