Blue Eagles Sunday denied Silver Strikers the chance to go top of the TNM Super League log table when they held the Bankers to a goalless draw at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.
The draw was Silver’s seventh of the season and they have since failed in their quest to overtake leaders Be Forward Wanderers.
Silver are now at 34 points while Wanderers remain at the summit with 35 points despite not playing in the league over the weekend.
The Nomads have the advantage of a game in hand.
The Nankhaka game was a balanced affair with both teams creating chances but neither side managed to hit the back of the net.
It was a rough game which had several stoppages due to injuries sustained by players from time to time.
Eagles goalkeeper, John Soko, made a fantastic save to deny Matthews Sibale from close range in the second half.
Silver goalkeeper Brighton Munthali continued with his impressive form with great saves throughout the game.
Eagles Head Coach, Audrow Makonyola, said the draw was a good result for his side.
“I am happy with the performance of the team. The good thing is that we have not lost a game at home since the season kicked off,” Makonyola said.
But Silver Team Manager, Francis Songo, said both teams had golden chances to win the game.
“It was a good game as both teams created numerous scoring chances but a draw is a fair result. We are not under pressure as this was our first game in the first round. We still have many more games to come,” Songo said.
In other games, Azam Tigers beat Premier Bet Wizards 2-1 at Mulanje Park with goals from Bonda Mpinganjira and Luke Chima while Mischeck Botomani netted the face saver for Wizards.
At Chitowe in Dwangwa, Mafco worsened Blantyre United’s woes with a 3-0 victory, thanks to Callisto Kalinda, Joseph Donsa and Emmanuel Chipeta to climb to position five with 25 points from 16 matches.
Moyale returned to winning ways after beating Red Lions 2-1 in a match played at Mzuzu Stadium.
The Lions of Kaning’ina are now sixth with 25 points as Khuda Muyaba and Deus Nkutu found the net with Mphatso Ngwira hitting the target for the Zomba-based soldiers.
