Blue Eagles goalkeeper John Soko has been voted by fans as TNM Super League’s Player-of-the-Month for August.
Like an eagle jealously protecting its nest, Soko proved equal to the task in Eagles’ goal posts.
Soko, who received K100,000 for his exploits, thanked supporters for their vote and vowed to maintain his excellent form.
“I am delighted with this award. It is a great achievement. I thank TNM for bringing up this award which impacts positively on us players. I promise to give back to supporters’ votes through outstanding performances on the pitch,” he said.
The goalie enjoyed excellent performances in several games to take the cops to second position in the top flight league.
Soko amassed 762 votes, followed by Moyale Barracks’ Deus Nkutu on 392. Bondage Lweya of Kamuzu Barracks got 214 with Ntopwa’s Richard Chimbamba earning 155 while Mighty Tigers skipper Willie Saenda polled 142.
TNM Distribution Manager, Chimwemwe Mganga, said the award was achieving its intended purpose.
“The incentive was launched to promote active engagement of soccer fans in addition to traditional activities like Zampira Promotion. We are happy to underscore this commitment which has been shown through the active participation of supporters,” Mganga said.
Voters in the Player-of-the- Month category stand a chance of winning a trip to watch a La Liga match in Spain.
The draw to identify two winners for the Spain trip will be conducted on October 3.
Since the award was introduced, TNM has awarded three players, with the Be Forward Wanderers duo of Babatunde Adepoju and Francisco Madinga enjoying early success.
