Blue Eagles happy to end Civil jinx

Blue Eagles have said character was key in their 2-1 comeback victory over Capital City rivals Civil Sporting Club in a TNM Super League match played at Nankhaka Stadium on Saturday.
The victory was Eagles’ first against Civil in three years.
The policemen’s Technical Director, Christopher Sibale, said they were excited with the victory.
“We started slowly and they got the early goal, but we worked hard for the equaliser. Our plan was to press hard and get maximum points,” Sibale said Mohammed Sulumba gave Civil the lead but Foster Biton levelled the scores before Schumacher Kuwali grabbed the winner.
The win saw Eagles move to position three with 39 points from 21 games while Civil remain fifth after amassing 34 points from 22 games.
Civil Team Manager, Gabriel Chirwa, said he was disappointed with the loss.
“Losing after such a great performance is painful. But this is football.
Not all is lost and we will continue pushing for top four,” Chirwa said.
In other matches played on Saturday, Masters Security returned to winning ways after beating Mlatho Mponela 2-1 at Dedza Stadium.
Zeliat Nkhoma and Benard Chimaimba scored for Masters whereas Jaffalie Chande netted Mponela’s consolation.
Despite the win, Masters still anchor the table with 17 points from 21 games, at par with fellow relegation candidates Mlatho and Ntopwa.
Savenda Chitipa United and Karonga United played out a thrilling 3- 3 draw at Karonga Stadium.
