Blue Eagles are monitoring the fitness of their three key players ahead of the Airtel Top 8 final against Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe on Sunday.
Eagles are sweating over the fitness of Captain Micium Mhone, John Malidadi Junior and Gilbert Chirwa.
The players missed the 3-0 defeat to Be Forward Wanderers in the TNM Super League last Sunday.
Eagles Coach, Derklerk Msakakuona, said the team’s doctors were assessing the players.
“By tomorrow we will be able to update you,” Msakakuona said.
Malidadi and Maxwell Salambula have netted a goal each in the cup.
Eagles are itching to end their five-year trophy drought, having won the Carlsberg Cup in 2013 after beating Escom United (now defunct) 1-0 at Civo Stadium, courtesy of Ben Hojani’s goal.
Bullets also hope to welcome back Mike Mkwate who missed two consecutive games due to suspension.
Mkwate missed the 2-1 victory over rivals, Be Forward Wanderers, in the semi-final at BNS and was absent as the People’s Team drew 2-2 against Dwangwa United at Chitowe Ground in a league match last Saturday.
Bullets Chief Executive Officer, Fleetwood Haiya, told Times Radio on Tuesday that Mkwate’s issue has been sorted out.
Eagles and Bullets are appearing for the first time in the Airtel Top 8 final.
On their way to the final, Eagles defeated struggling Mafco 1-0 on aggregate before knocking out holders, Silver Strikers, by a similar margin in the semi-final whereas Bullets beat Moyale Barracks 1-0 on aggregate then Wanderers 2-1 in the semi-final.
The winner will pocket K15 million with the runner-up getting K7.5 million.
