Blue Eagles move second

Blue Eagles ended their three game winless run when they thrashed Dedza Dynamos 4-0 to reclaim the second slot on the TNM Super League log table Sunday.

Ian Chinyama put Eagles in the lead in the 15th minute before Gaddie Chirwa extended the lead in the 33rd minute.

Dynamos were dealt a blow after losing goalkeeper Donnex Mwakisinga to an injury and he was replaced by Andre Mtinkhulu in the 36th minute.

In the second half, Dynamos’ Suwedi Limbani was red carded giving an upper hand to Eagles.

Kondwani Kathumba scored an own goal to cushion Eagles’ lead in the 56th minute.

The game was put beyond Dynamos’ reach when Chirwa scored his second and Eagles’ fourth in the 62nd minute.

Dynamos Coach Dan Dzinkambani blamed the loss on officiation.

“Normally, I don’t complain about officiation but most of the decisions in today’s game affected us. Of course I changed the team a lot as each player deserves game time,” he said.

Eagles Coach Eliya Kananji said they want to win the remaining games to stand a chance of finishing in the top two.

“We will continue working hard to be among the top two teams. Realistically we can’t dream of winning the league now,” he said.

Eagles have 53 points from 26 games whereas leaders Nyasa Big Bullets have 61 points from 25 games.

Third-placed Eagles have 51 points from 26 matches while fourth-placed Wanderers have 50 points from 25 games.
