Blue Eagles punish Red Lions

Red Lions free-fall in the TNM Super League continued Sunday following a 2-0 loss to Blue Eagles at Nankhaka Stadium.

Gilbert Chirwa and Christopher Gototo were on target for the Eagles, who maintained third spot on the 16-member log table with 43 points from 20 matches, nine points behind leaders Nyasa Big Bullets.

For Lions, the loss means they are just one place above the relegation zone with 25 points from 22 matches.

After the match, Eagles Assistant Coach Christopher Sibale was pleased with the victory.

“The players played according to instructions and this is a good win for us,’’ Sibale said.

However, Lions Coach Mike Kumanga said there is no need to press the panic button,

“We will recover and will not go down,’’ Kumanga said.

Elsewhere, Silver Strikers and Karonga United shared the spoils after a goal-less draw at Bingu National Stadium. Following the draw, Silver have displaced Mighty Mukuru Wanderers from position five with 38 points from 23 matches.

At Champions Ground in Mponela, Civil Service United drew 2-2 with Moyale Barracks. Luke Chima and Binwel Katinji scored for Civo whereas Gasten Simkonda netted a brace.

Civo are on position nine with 28 points from 23 matches whereas Moyale have 33 points from 22 matches.

In another match, TN Stars lost 1-0 to Ekwendeni Hammers at Kasungu Stadium. Isaac Msiska scored for Hammers, who moved to position 12 with 25 points from 25 matches.

Stars are second from bottom with 12 points from 22 matches.

Rookies Sable Farming defeated Rumphi United 2-0 at Mpira Stadium Sunday. Mike Tetteh and Chimwemwe Kaliyala (own goal) scored for Sable.
