Blue Eagles refuse to throw in towel

Blue Eagles are aiming to collect maximum points this weekend when they face Dedza Young Soccer and Epac in the TNM Super League second round.

Eagles travel to Dedza Stadium on Saturday for a dance with the hosts, who displayed a solid performance to hold leaders, Big Bullets 1-1 at the same venue.

Eagles assistant coach, Wilson Chidati, on Thursday said the title race is not over and they can pull a surprise this season.

“Everyone is geared for the encounters because we have realistic chances of winning the Super League title if we win all the remaining games. Anything can happen in football, and Bullets can drop some points at this crucial stage,” Chidati said.

Against Dedza, the police outfit will be without Alephous Nyoni and Steve Chagoma due to suspensions, but they will be available on Sunday against Epac.

In the first round, Eagles beat Dedza 3-1 at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe. Following the one-all draw against Bullets, Dedza might be in confident mood and Eagles must exercise caution.

Dedza team manager, Andrew Bunya, said the players are determined to beat Eagles and avoid the drop.

“The boys are in good shape. Eagles are a good side, but we can beat them,” Bunya said.

Fletcher Bandawe, who scored a glancing header against Bullets, could be one of the dangerous players for the hosts, alongside October player-of-the- month, Amadu Makawa and Davie Balaka.

Eagles have one of the most feared attackers on the domestic football scene.

On a good day, Schumacher Kuwali, John Banda and Wister Phiri can create and score for fun.

Dedza are stuck in the relegation zone on position 13 with 20 points from 22 games, whereas Eagles are fourth on the log table with 36 points from 20 games.

Bullets lead the pack with 51 points, 11 a head of second-placed Mafco and the leaders just need at least 10 points to retain the title.

In another game in Lilongwe, Civo host Red Lions at Civo Stadium.
