Blue Eagles reign in GOtv
Hot title contenders, Blue Eagles Sisters maintained their perfect start to the GOtv Netball Champions League when they led the pack of four well-known giants to reach the semifinals of the competition.
Unbeaten Eagles, alongside Complex Tigresses, Kukoma Diamonds and Thunder Queens lived up to their billing after successful second-round games that ended yesterday at Blantyre Youth Centre.
Civonets were the notable biggest casualty after failing to progress to the semifinals, and they will now be involved in fifth/ sixth place play-off.
In GOtv-Plus group, Eagles and Tigresses sailed to through after edging out Mimosa and Mafco Soldiers. On Saturday, Eagles beat Mimosa 85- 17 and Mafco 67-19. In the same pool, Tigresses humbled Mafco 73-24 and Mimosa Queens 91-11.
The real test was Sunday when Eagles yet again humbled Tigresses 45-41 in a nail-biting encounter. It was a second successive defeat Tigresses had suffered to Eagles having also lost 37-40 in Mzuzu a fortnight ago. In another match from the same pool, Mimosa defeated Mafco 50-39.
In GOtv-Value group, Thunde r Que ens and Diamonds made it at the expense of Civonets and Lameck Queens. On Saturday, Thunder Queens defeated Lameck Queens 58-26 and Civonets 39-33. Diamonds also humiliated Civonets 41-30 before whacking Lameck Queens 65-25.
During matches played yesterday, Civonets beat Lameck Queens 62-18, but it was not enough to see them through. In another equally entertaining and tough fixture, from the same GOtv-Value pool, Diamonds struggled to beat Thunder Queens 44-38.
